About me
I have exclusively practiced criminal defense as a sole practitioner since founding my firm in 2000. Before that, I spent three misguided years as an Assistant State Attorney before seeing the light and switching sides.
I have been a board-certified criminal trial attorney since 2004 and have served on the FACDL Board of Directors from 2004 to the present, with the exception of 2023. I served as a Chapter Representative from 2004 to 2019. In both 2019 and 2022, I was elected to the Board as a Director at Large. Although I lost the election in 2023 and, for the first time in nearly 20 years, was not a board member, I continued to work actively for the organization and served on several Board committees. I was re-elected as a Director at Large in 2023.
I first joined the Board as the Chapter Representative for my Brevard County Chapter while also serving as Chapter President. At that time, we did not have enough participation to appoint a separate Chapter Representative, so I served in both roles. I went on to serve two additional terms as Chapter President. By the end of my final term, our membership had grown significantly, entitling us to two Board positions. I was then elected Chapter Representative, a position I held until I was elected Director at Large.
Throughout my time on the Board, I have served on most of its committees and have developed in-depth knowledge of the organization’s inner workings. Most recently, I have served on the Legislative Committee, the Bylaws Committee (where I previously served as Chair), the Long-Range Planning Committee, and I currently chair the new Council of Chapters Subcommittee. The Long-Range Planning Committee, after several years of work, developed a comprehensive long-range plan for the organization that was ratified by the Board. If elected, I will work to ensure the goals outlined in that plan are fully implemented.
For those who may not be familiar, the election of Secretary—or Treasurer this year—begins the path to the presidency. The elected officer advances annually through the roles of Secretary, Treasurer, Vice President, President-Elect, President, and finally Past President. This election marks the start of a six-year commitment to serve on the Executive Board. With my children now grown, I have both the time and dedication necessary to fulfill this commitment.
I am excited about the future of our organization and the incredible opportunities ahead. With a strong, engaged membership and a clear long-range plan, I believe FACDL will continue to be the leading voice for criminal defense attorneys across Florida.
I would greatly appreciate your vote to serve on the Executive Committee and, ultimately, as President of FACDL. Thank you.
