About me
Ashley N. Minton attended the University of Florida and received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science. Upon graduation from UF (GO GATORS!) Ashley moved to San Diego, California to attend the University of San Diego School of Law.
While at the University of San Diego, Ashley worked for the Public Defender’s Office and the Alternate Public Defender, handling all levels of cases, including murder. During her last year of law school, Ashley worked for prominent San Diego criminal defense attorney Allen Bloom. While working for Mr. Bloom, Ashley handled Writs of Habeas Corpus for persons convicted of homicide.
After passing the Florida Bar, Ashley accepted a position with the Nineteenth Judicial Circuit Office of the Public Defender. After working for the Public Defender’s Office for two years, Ashley opened her own firm in 2008 in her hometown of Ft. Pierce, Florida. She now practices with her husband Jeff Smith at Smith Minton. Ashley practices primarily in the area of major crimes and criminal appeals.
Ashley is a member of the Florida Bar, the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida, the United States District Court for the Middle District of Florida, and the United States District Court for the Northern District of Florida. Ashley is also a lifetime member of the Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the Saint Lucie County Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and is an Adjunct Faculty member at Indian River State College in the area of Law. Ashley won the Florida Bar President’s Pro Bono Award for the Nineteenth Circuit in 2019. Ashley has also served twice on the grievance committee. Ashley is a member of MENSA, which she never lets her husband Jeff forget.
